For this project, my team was assigned a patient named Hikaru Sulu who had a colostomy. Hikaru struggled to change his ostomy appliance due to his irregularly shaped stoma that fluctuated in size throughout the day. He also had arthritis in his hands that limited his dexterity and therefore his ability to accurately measure his stoma prior to changing his appliance.
My team was tasked with designing a device to allow Hikaru to easily change his ostomy appliance in a reduced amount of time.
