Project Objectives

What I Did

• Participated in a conference with ostomy experts from McMaster Children’s Hospital
• Helped develop a need statement and determine objectives and constraints in order to narrow down possible solutions
• Compiled preliminary research about common ostomy appliance materials and their functions
• Created a preliminary sketch outlining the features and functions of a possible device
• Collaborated with team to determine a final design
• 3D modeled the band component of our device in Autodesk Inventor
• Monitored device printing progress and sanded down edges
• Assembled final prototype
• Helped design a slide as a visual aid for the final presentation
• Gave a three minute oral presentation about the final device and how it achieved the goal

Outcome

The final prototype and a demonstration of its function and ability to accurately measure an irregularly shaped stoma.
