What I Learned

A Learning Experience

A specific learning experience that I had during this project was while modeling the acetabular cup. Once I finished the lining I attempted to recreate that sketch outline in another part file to act as a base for the acetabular cup. My dimensions for this ended up being slightly off and therefore the two parts did not properly align. I then discovered that it was possible to copy and paste sketches into other part files which is what I did. This meant that the inner sketch was now correct however the entire outer egg-shaped revolution did not align with the new inner sketch it was based off of. As you can imagine, this caused a host of errors.

After doing some googling and learning how to read design errors and what all the little icons meant, I was able to fix a few errors. Ultimately I ended up just redoing the outer surface based on the correct inner sketch. Once I had completed this component I attempted to attach the lining and cup in an assembly file, only to discover I had not left enough clearance and the two parts were overlapping.

Finally, after much sketch editing and error analysis my dimensions finally lined up and the parts fit together properly.
